About Reptile day
Reptile Day is a fun, free event held every year in Springfield, Missouri. It was started by Amy Hankins, a long-time herpetology enthusiast, in March of 2017. Together with her colleagues, she strives to educate the public about reptiles and amphibians.
Reptile Day features a staff of knowledgeable herpetology enthusiasts who share their animals with the public. This is a chance to get up close and personal with these often misunderstood creatures. Have questions about keeping reptiles or amphibians as pets? Our exhibitors have many years of combined experience keeping and breeding these animals.
Along with educating about captive husbandry, we feature exhibits-- our most popular showcases our native Missouri species of amphibians and reptiles.
So, whether you are already a reptile enthusiast yourself, are curious about these creatures, or even want to get over your fear of them, check out Reptile Day at the Fairbanks. It's the first event of its kind ever to be held in Springfield, Missouri and it's FREE!
Reptile Day is proud to be part of the Northwest Project, a partnership led by the Drew Lewis Foundation and Drury University, with generous support from the Community Foundation of the Ozarks, the Stanley & Elaine Ball Foundation, and the Musgrave Foundation. The goal of the Northwest Project is to develop and test strategies to help families overcome the challenges of poverty, and to sustain their long-term success in emerging from those circumstances.
We are also members of the Gateway Herpetology and Entomology Club, a Facebook club that represents the herpetological communities all over the state of Missouri and the midwest. Please check out the Gateway Club's Facebook Page. At the time of this writing, we have over 1200 members!
